What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is made with three-dimensional computer imaging technology, that includes a invisible, easily removable aligners that are comfortable is hard for people to notice. The best part is that people can not tell whether you are wearing them.

The comfort and effectiveness of Invisalign make it the ultimate orthodontic treatment. Invisalign is perfect for adult orthodontic treatments because it is easy to remove and unnoticeable.

If your dentist has ever suggested orthodontic treatment because your teeth are spaced out, crowded, or just out of normal position, you've probably thought about how uncomfortable it will be to have to wear metal braces on your teeth for about a year. Instead of dealing with distracting visible braces on your teeth for that period of time, you may be able to substitute your treatment with Invisalign. Invisalign is an orthodontic alternative to traditional braces that uses a series of clear, removable aligners that snap onto your teeth to move and adapt them to the proper shape.

Invisalign offers several advantages over traditional braces.

Invisalign:
- Is virtually invisible. Braces contain shiny, unattractive pieces of metal that cannot be hidden from a smile. Invisalign aligners are clear and blend in with your teeth.

- Is much more comfortable than traditional braces. Braces rely on tightened wires that are tied across your teeth and can poke the inside of your mouth. Each Invisalign aligner is made of a smooth piece of plastic that is customized for your teeth.

- Is easy to clean. Braces require special tools to clean out the tiny spots between your teeth and the metal pieces. Invisalign aligners allow you to brush normally by simply removing the aligners beforehand.

- Does not restrict your diet. Braces prevent you from eating anything hard, sticky, or prone to damaging your brackets and wires. Invisalign aligners are removable, so you can take out your aligners and eat without restrictions.

Invisalign aligners are developed through the use of X-rays and impressions of your teeth. Invisalign labs will then scan these into digital three-dimensional images. Your dentist uses these images to map out your treatment plan and show you how your teeth will be moved with each stage until they are aligned properly. Once the treatment plan is determined, your aligners will be generated using the 3-D images of your teeth.

Invisalign aligners must be worn day and night, and should only be taken out when eating or brushing and flossing your teeth. They work by gently pushing your teeth and shifting them into place over time. The longer you wear them each day, the more your teeth will be moved in the right direction. Each aligner set is worn for about two weeks. Once those two weeks are up, you simply put in the next ones in the series, which will be slightly different than the last. These slight changes work similarly to the tightening of braces in traditional orthodontics, but without the pain and constant checkups. In fact, the only time you'll need to visit your dentist during your treatment is to monitor your progress every six weeks or so.

Invisalign requires some special care during treatment. Whenever you eat, drink non-clear liquids, or smoke, you'll need to remove your aligners. You'll also need to brush your teeth after every meal and snack, so it may be a good idea to keep a travel-sized toothbrush with you. Failing to do so can stain the trays. If your trays get stained, you can clean them with the Invisalign cleaning kit or with a toothbrush and lukewarm water. Your dentist will provide all the instructions and tools you'll need to maintain your Invisalign aligners.
