Dental Implants

Implant Dentist Newport BeachDental Implants are the best alternative for missing teeth or replacement of an existing bridge because they give you a natural feeling and looking smile. Dental implants are an artificial tooth root that is placed in the jawbone and they hold a tooth.

Dental Implants are the best alternative because they do not rely on surrounding teeth like a bridge; they are isolated to the missing area only. Dental implants are very natural; they easily restore function just like your natural tooth.

The implant procedure is minimally invasive for most patients in comparison to having a filling or crown procedure.

Those who are interested in Dental Implants are required to have healthy gums and requisite bone that will provide support for the dental implant. A dental evaluation would be the first step to having an implant dentistry procedure.

More on Implant Dentistry
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is used to replace missing teeth and prevent bone loss. The procedure is often categorized as both forms of cosmetic dentistry and prosthetics, since they're used to enhance both oral appearance and function.
Implant dentistry is primarily used to treat tooth loss. While tooth loss has several other treatment options, dental implants may be the most effective choice. Because the entire root is replaced as opposed to just the tooth, dental implants offer strength and durability that most other treatments can't provide. In some cases, it may be the only solution to restore all functionality of the teeth.

Dental implants are not for everyone. If you suffer from tooth loss, make an appointment with your dentist to find out if you can receive dental implants. In order to check if you have sufficient bone structure in your jaw, your dentist may use X-rays and computer tomography scans as part of the examination. If you don't have enough bone structure for an implant, your dentist may recommend small diameter implants, sometimes referred to as "mini implants."

The implant procedure requires the jaw to be properly prepared first. Using a drill, the dentist will create a small hole at the site of the tooth loss. When the dentist has completed the implant hole, the space will then be covered by a protective material to ensure nothing slips into the area during the healing period. Your dentist will then inform you of how to handle the cover over the next six months, which is the period of adjustment your mouth needs before the implant procedure can continue.

When it is ready, your dentist will remove the cover and place the abutment, which is the post that fits into the hole and holds your artificial tooth in place. Once the abutment is secured, the dentist will place a temporary crown until your artificial tooth is ready. The artificial tooth will be placed later, which will realistically match your natural smile and permanently act as a part of your regular teeth. The procedure may seem unpleasant, but your dentist will numb the area in your mouth to make the entire treatment pain free.

At Image Dental we do offer sedation for implants per patient’s request.
