About Newport Beach
Huntington Beach borders the West at the Santa Ana River. To the North are Costa Mesa, John Wayne Airport, and the City of Irvine. We're bordered to the East by Crystal Cove State Park. The weather here is always comfortable, never shifting too far from an average of 68°F high and 56°F low throughout the year. Our climate is nicely moderated by the Pacific Ocean, keeping our winters warmer and our summers cooler.
Over half of our total area is covered by the Pacific Ocean, offering over 10 miles of some of the cleanest and most beautiful beach land in Southern California. Newport Beach has attracted beachgoers from all over California for over a century. Our beaches are renowned for world-class surfing, particularly around Newport Pier and the Santa Ana River. Bodyboarding and bodysurfing is great at the tip of the Balboa Peninsula. Historical Newport Pier and Balboa Pier are two locations that are renowned for their restaurants and great fishing spots. We have one of the largest selections of sporting, arts, culture, and culinary events in Orange County. Sailing, fishing, rowing, canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding are popular boating activities in our harbor community.
Newport Harbor houses some 9,000 boats, making us one of the largest recreational boat harbors on the west coast. Newport Harbor is also home to the Catalina Flyer ferry, several harbor tours, and whale watching day trips. The North East side provides the local port to many small merchants, local eateries, and an organic farmers market. It's also where the area boat show is hosted each year and is the official port of the local Gondola Company.
